The little subtle flavors I can taste are just amazing! The fish, my Wife chose was perfect for her, my sweet pepper was the perfect choice for me! My choice was the jumbo sweet pepper stuffed with cumin beef with roasted tomatoes, sweet onion and cheddar Jack cheese!īoth had roasted garlic mashed potatoes(a favorite) ! Also mixed greens with watermelon feta cheese and a champagne vinaigrette! Oh Lord it was wonderful!!!! My Wife likes lighter fare while I enjoy something with more seasoning, so-she went with the lightly breaded tilapia filet with artichoke hearts, capers and lemon butter! My vocabulary is too limited in how good it really is. The soup was so delicate with the perfect amount of cilantro and scallions. The next course was a Lady cream peas with cilantro and scallions with a Wonder cornbread muffin. The appetizer started with an edamame hummus over a crispy won ton and a strawberry with a delicate balsamic glaze. The food reminds us slightly like what we’ve had in Paris, but what is amazing is, she puts a local spin using many things available in her area! You find out Laurel was trained in France and worked under three great French Michelin ranked chefs! She learned her craft exceedingly well and I feel has bested them with her own spin! The interior design is wonderful and in back of the restaurant they have a huge oak with a tree house you can rent for a private meal. The name Laurel Tree is a unique name and the chef/owner is Laurel Waters. The menu is fixed and like some of the best restaurants in Paris, you have a choice of two main options and lunch is a four course meal. They are only open on Saturday for two meals that day only. Wonderful lady, and we talked a bit while she seated us! We got back in time, entered and we were greeted by Mrs. The views are fantastic going there in the Hill Country! to kill some time we drove to Garner State Park. We planned on spending the weekend in San Antonio and it’s about 1 1/2 hours to Utopia I’ve been wanting to dine at this restaurant for some time! I was finally fortunate to get a reservation for Saturday at lunch. As I looked at my menu, I was surprised to see cheese wiz on crackers (with mint!) as an appetizer, a hot dog with brie (and mint!) soup, a choice between "chicken fried spam with brussel sprouts and yams over a bed of runny mint potatoes" OR "chicken fried Spam with brussel sprouts and yams over a bed of runny mint potatoes"!! (NOT much of a choice for entrees!) All of this for $125 per person AND coat and ties were required for men!!!! I was shaking my head thinking, "THIS does NOT sound very good at all! Why did our friends think this would be a great place to eat a special dinner?!!?" When the staff broke out in laughter, we KNEW we'd been had!! It was all an April Fool's Day trick, and a good one at that!! We then got to watch as others came in after us to nearby tables, and we laughed as they also looked so puzzled before being given the REAL menus! SO much fun!! The food was much more appealing on the real menu than the Spam dish on the fake one! We had the bass which was one of the two choices that evening, and it was delicious! The staff were all great and we had a young man, Luke, (a high school junior) as our server who did such a great job! I told him he would be mentioned in my review because not only did he do a great job in bringing us the various courses of our meals, he also brought us LOTS of the delicious bread and butter to have with our food!! And he was just such a nice guy! He told us he might like to attend the naval academy and we told him that both husbands in our group had been in the Air Force and we would be happy to recommend him for the academy when he graduates from HS and goes on in his education!! What a fun evening we had here at Laurel Tree!! More dinner here as our friends had come down in the recent past and raved about it and the food there! We were the first group to be seated in the main part of the restaurant right when they opened for dinner, and our smiling servers immediately came to our table with the menus and kind of hung around to watch us as we looked at it. They are ONLY open on Saturdays, so it must be booked far in advance. We went to Laurel Tree Restaurant on Saturday, April 1st, after our friends we were visiting in Texas booked a reservation for us.
